“Ban the Box” legislation has swept the country and the legislation requires employers to remove from their hiring applications the check box that asks an applicant if they have a criminal conviction.
There are 27 states and numerous cities and counties that have passed “Ban the Box” legislation which prevents employers from asking applicants on the employment application if they have a criminal record until later in the hiring process.
